Stainless steel and laser welding are a perfect match. Low heat input preserves corrosion resistance while delivering clean, beautiful welds.
Proper settings = clean silver welds with no heat tint
Low heat preserves chrome oxide layer
Thin stainless sheets stay flat
5-10x faster than TIG on thin material
| Grade | Type | Common Uses | Weldability |
|---|---|---|---|
| 304 | Austenitic | Kitchen, food processing | Excellent |
| 316 | Austenitic | Marine, medical, chemical | Excellent |
| 430 | Ferritic | Automotive trim, appliances | Good |
| 410 | Martensitic | Cutlery, turbines | Fair (preheat needed) |
| 2205 | Duplex | Oil/gas, chemical tanks | Good |
Higher power for thicker material
Too slow causes oxidation/discoloration
Wider for better coverage
L grades for low carbon
Pure argon is standard
Slight negative defocus for deeper penetration
The rainbow discoloration (heat tint) on stainless welds is caused by oxidation. To achieve clean silver welds: use adequate argon shielding, travel fast enough, and don't over-power. Proper technique = no post-weld polishing needed.
Our fiber laser welders excel at stainless steel plus aluminum, carbon steel, and more. Factory-direct pricing with full support.
